Esme Morgan Parts Ways With Man City

After spending 9 years as a blue, the English defender Esme Morgan has decided to move on to experience a new challenge. This could be an exciting move for 23-year-old Morgan and will help her develop further as an outstanding young talent.

Whilst at Manchester City, the defender has developed massively. Over the years, she has become a very strong player who wears her heart on her sleeve. Her contributions to the club have been massive. She is very much a game changer. However, she has been unable to show her talent as her game time has been limited.

She has often been left on the bench, or brought on as a substitute. As a player who has a lot of potential, she has not been able to show off what she has been able to do due to a lack of playing time. As she has developed a lot over the seasons, she needs to be playing more in order to develop her career.

Announcing her exit, a statement from Manchester City on the 27th of May read: “We can confirm that Esme Morgan will leave the club this summer. The defender’s move remains subject to international clearance and her receiving a work permit”. This suggests that it will not be a WSL club she will be joining this summer, but instead it is likely that she is going to be looking for a new footballing adventure further afield.

It is believed that Esme’s move has been linked to Europe and America. The club currently showing the most interest in Esme (and the club she is most likely to go to) is Washington Spirit in the NWSL. As she is still young, playing football more regularly in America will certainly give her a different challenge. If she does goes out to play in America, it will undoubtedly help her improve her game in another very competitive league, which may result in her possibly moving back to the English league at some point in her career.

Do you think it is the right time for her to make the switch? Is America the right destination for her? Will this move help propel her career in the right direction? And will we see her back in the WSL sometime soon? Lots of questions for Esme to ponder when considering such a big move at this stage in her career.
